Title: Senior Agency Underwriter- Personal LinesLocation: United StatesJob Number: 1800850We are looking for an energetic, dynamic, success driven professional with Personal Lines Underwriting experience to join our team. The selected candidate will have direct accountability for providing our Agents direction on risk appetite, build strong relationships that drive business performance, while maintaining a balanced book profile. The primary goal of this position is to profitably grow a book of business by actively partnering with Agents and working effectively with Product, Pricing and Sales colleagues throughout the organization. This person will plan and budget for the book of business, develop and maintain agency relationships, and execute underwriting decisions.
Financial Performance
Evaluate risk characteristics and analyze historic and potential account performance to make sound underwriting decisions
Utilize established practices, procedures and authority level to issue, modify, and renew policies
Make decisions within authority levels and provide detailed assessment and recommendations to manager for risks outside established authority
Build and maintain strong agency relationships
At times serve as a subject matter expert regarding personal lines products, coverages, rating methodology, systems and marketplace
Underwriting Execution
Be an expert in the understanding and the application of Agency Underwriting principles, guidelines and practices.
Understand and communicate underwriting appetite and decisions to our Sales and Agency partners
Partner to develop, evolve and improve business performance with highly partnered agents
Understands underwriting practices and guidelines with a focus on pricing the risk appropriately, risk selection, and mix of business
Understand state regulations and marketplace drivers
Effectively understand and can communicate underwriting programs to deliver desired business objectives
Ability to drive strong business performance and profitability by region and or state
Expert knowledge of Personal Lines insurance principles, practices, and products
WHAT ARE THE RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE POSITION?
Review and approve new business, endorsements and renewals for assigned agencies as required
Manage book of business to achieve profitability and growth

Review property inspection reports to identify potential loss hazards
Work with Marketing to develop relationships with assigned agencies
Establish and maintain broker and client contact to enhance relationships. You understand and are passionate about delivering accurate information and an interaction that is personalized, authentic and distinguished. You keep brokers and clients coming back!
Handle Underwriting contacts, develop, strengthen and maintain mutually beneficial relationships with highly partnered Agents seeking underwriting expertise, guidance and exceptions.
Demonstrate active listening, meeting commitments, and building relationships.
Flexibility and ability to adjust and succeed in a rapidly changing, fast paced call center environment.
Perform general underwriting functions including underwriting submission reviews, pricing analysis, and setting of policy terms and conditions up to our agreed authority limits. You understand that we are protecting our client’s most prized possessions and you take great pride in doing so.
Liaise with Claims Department on any specific claim activity.
You consistently innovate and help ensure streamlined processes and a flawless customer journey with a continuous improvement mindset
Share knowledge and best practices with agents, and work with the agents to craft best solutions for their clients
Stay current with respect to major industry issues and developments.
Candidates must be able to work well in a team environment, as well as being able to resolve issues accurately and independently
You have a sense of urgency around resolution, you keep the agent and/or client informed and follows up in a timely manner.
Qualifications: QUALIFICATIONS
Qualified individuals seeking full time remote work from home will be considered
Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience with completion of insurance coursework such as API or CPCU preferred Risk Management and insurance, or equivalent combination of education and experience
Minimum 3 years of Personal Lines Underwriting experience
Established ability to adapt to new ideas and situations and manage change concerning procedures, ideas and work environment
Strong influencing and communication skills with demonstrated ability to engage with senior management internally and at Agents level
Knowledge of personal lines insurance products, state regulations, underwriting policies, procedures and best practices.
Technical underwriting knowledge and skills reflective of progression in positions of increasing responsibility
