Reporting to the Senior Vice President of The Hartford’s Specialty Commercial team, the Head of Allied Health Product & Strategy will be responsible for leading the creation and execution of the Allied Health strategic plan with accountability for the product and appetite expansion agenda as well as the distribution & marketing strategy to propel the profitable growth of the segment. Working with executive leadership, the successful candidate will identify and frame strategic issues and drive the planning and execution of program initiatives. This role will have significant impact on driving superior financial results, building employee engagement and creating long-term customer value.

This will be a highly visible role with our distribution partners across the country and within selected industry associations aimed at elevating our brand and establishing our thought partnership & expertise within the marketplace.

The primary responsibilities for the position include the following:

Strategic Plan: Development & Execution

  • Working closely with the SVP Specialty Commercial, create a long term vision for the Allied Health segment that drives growth, market position and maintains profit margins

  • Develop and manage the strategic initiatives that will drive & enable this strategic vision

Product & Appetite Expansion: Development & Execution

  • Lead the ongoing identification of growth opportunities and appetite expansion needed to build out a market competitive Allied Health offering

  • Lead a cross-functional team in the execution of a product agenda that will push our Allied Health solutions into the forefront of the market

  • Personally drive the development and management of product and underwriting appetite and controls to ensure market viability and competitiveness

Distribution Strategy: Development & Execution

  • Lead the development of a distribution strategy for the segment aimed at identifying where the Allied Health opportunity exists across the country and initiatives to improve penetration with targeted distribution partners

  • Collaborate with local field leadership and the Specialty field team to develop the strategy to penetrate and increase market share

Marketing Strategy: Development & Execution

  • Lead the development of the marketing strategy for the Allied Health segment; collaborate with enterprise marketing leadership to position the practice for achievement of desired market position, articulation of value proposition and brand awareness

Qualifications:

  • Ten- plus years of property & casualty insurance experience required.

  • Underwriting and/or product development experience within the Allied Health sector required. Must include a primary focus on professional liability.

  • Experience in crafting high impact strategy, generating executive team endorsement/support and leading disciplined implementation planning and oversight.

  • Disciplined and structured thought leader; ability to understand customer needs, find new growth opportunities and find profitability improvement opportunities.

  • Strong leadership skills; ability to drive change with strong influencing skills.

  • Strong process management discipline. Establishes priorities, anticipates problems, determines completion dates, knows and communicates the status of assignments; manages time effectively; uses the services of others effectively.

  • Team player with a strong collaborative orientation; ability to build strong relationships across an organization.

  • Ability to deal with ambiguity in a matrixed organization; ability to guide, influence and navigate effectively with different constituencies in achieving company goals.

  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills

  • Bachelor’s degree required.

Location:

This position ideally will ideally be located

in Hartford, CT; however, the location can be flexible depending on candidate’s experience. The travel requirement will depend on the location of the candidate.
