This is position is for a Scrum Master in the Personal Lines IT organization. The Personal Lines development team is passionate for technology and strives to build well architected and innovative solutions for the business. Personal Lines has adopted the Agile - Scrum development methodology and core DevOps engineering practices such as continuous integration and test driven development.

The Personal Lines delivery team i s seeking motivated, results oriented individuals with strong technical and leadership skills for the role of a Scrum Master. The responsibilities of a Scrum Master include:

  • Ensures Scrum Team adheres to Scrum principles and best practices

  • Enables and helps those outside the Scrum Team (development team) understand which of their interactions with the Scrum Team are helpful and which aren’t. Helps everyone change these interactions to maximize the value created by the Scrum Team.

  • Understands product planning in an inspect and adapt environment, and ensures the Product Owner knows how to arrange the Product Backlog to maximize value

  • Provides information regarding team health: people, process, progress and overall satisfaction to Technology and Business Leaders

  • Coaches the team members to practice effective Scrum

  • Removes impediments for the team and escalate appropriately

  • Insulates Scrum Team from distractions or disruption

  • Coaches the Product Owner, Development Team, Technology and Business Leaders on Scrum values, principles and best practices

  • Partners with the Product Owner, IT Delivery Lead and Business leadership to form execution delivery plans and manage progress

  • Assess the Scrum Maturity of the team and organization and coaching the team to higher levels of maturity, at a pace that is sustainable and comfortable for the team and organization

  • Facilitates Release Planning

  • Identifies and resolves gaps in skills, processes, and resources

  • Build a trust and safe environment where problems can be raised without fear of blame, retribution, or being judged, with an emphasis of healing and problem solving.

Provide all support to the team using a servant leadership style whenever possible, and leading by example


Experience playing the Scrum Master role for at two years for a software development team that was diligently applying Scrum principles, practices, and theory.

Good skills and knowledge of servant leadership, facilitation, situational awareness, conflict resolution, continual improvement, empowerment, and increasing transparency

Knowledge of numerous well documented patterns and techniques for filling in the intentional gaps left in the Scrum approach(example: numerous Burndown techniques, numerous Retrospective formats, handling bugs, etc)

Must be a dynamic and self-starting individual who is able to work independently or as part of a team with minimal guidance and direction

Must be able to effectively prioritize and assign work in order to meet deadlines

Must be able to effectively communicate with both technical and non-technical users at all levels of an Organization

Must demonstrate a commitment to continuous learning and mentoring

Excellent verbal and written communication skills including the ability to present confidently before a large audience

Excellent analytical, problem solving and interpersonal skills

Knowledge of other Agile approaches: XP, Kanban, Crystal, FDD is a plus

Knowledge and/or experience with widely successful Agile techniques: User Stories, ATDD, TDD, Continuous Integration, Continuous Testing, Pairing, Automated Testing, Agile Games is a plus

Experience or Exposure of leading software development teams in technologies such as Java, Mobile frameworks including Bootstrap and AngularJS, JBOSS & WebLogic is a plus.

Understanding of ACORD based schema/XML is a plus
