  • The Network Monitoring team is seeking an Engineer to manage the administration of the Dell SMARTS solution. Responsibilities include; supporting operations, component currency upgrades and project work. Lead problem resolution activities and root cause analysis for technical issues. Manage escalation of issues working with our vendor partner. Adhere to Service Management processes for Event, Change and Incident Management.

  • Manage network monitoring for all of The Hartford locations

  • Execute changes for configurations, thresholds and alerts.

  • Analyze, design, test, install, document, implement monitored network objects within SMARTS

  • Achieve compliance and governance requirements; maintain Standard Operating Procedures and governance documentation.

  • Prepare and maintain up to date documentation for internal customers detailing configuration of deployed solutions.

  • Work collaboratively with Command Center team and Network Engineering to support the customer requirements.

  • Maintain existing PERL Scripts and SMARTS ASL Scripts and drive process improvements through automation

  • Assess existing suite of tools to leverage opportunities for improvement.


  • 3 – 5 years, hands on experience with UNIX, comfortable using the command line interface. Windows operating systems experience is a plus.

  • 2 years hands-on experience using SMARTS

  • 2 years hands-on PERL scripting

  • Working knowledge or recent experience with scripting languages, application development (java, python, .NET), nice to have

  • Solid planning and organization skills; establish priorities, anticipate problems, determine completion dates, manage time effectively

  • Ability to communicate technically as well as non-technically

  • Able to balance multiple demands from multiple customers

  • Experience in creating alerts, dashboards, and reports

  • Great oral and written communication skills
