WHAT ARE THE RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE POSITION?
The successful candidate will be assigned to the Marine Regional Office Underwriting Team. They should be able to review, underwrite and rate and prep for issue most lines of inland marine and property business according to established service and QA standards; handle telephone calls from agents; work closely with support staff.
As a Commercial Marine Underwriter, the position will produce and underwrite Commercial Inland Marine, Ocean Cargo, and Related Property business. The primary responsibility will be new business development and retaining profitable renewals. This position is eligible for an annual bonus which is based on achieving results in production and profit objectives.
The position will also assist in directing the execution of the Marine Operating Plans.
Agency Sales/Program Management: Build strong, distinctive strategic partnerships with key agents and brokers. Develop and implement segment sales plans. Keen insight into competitor's strengths, weaknesses and strategies to leverage for profitable business and increased agency penetration.
Underwriting Operations: Ensures that underwriting practices and guidelines are understood and adhered to, specifically focusing upon pricing, risk selection, mix of business, flow management and quality analysis. Utilize QA and referral programs to identify opportunities to ensure functional and regulatory integrity of the book of business and overall compliance with segment guidelines.
WHAT ARE WE LOOKING FOR?
We are looking for skilled, experienced Marine Underwriting talent. We value those underwriters that have subject matter expertise within the Marine lines and possess the following qualifications:
Ideal candidate will possess 7 or more years of commercial carrier production underwriting experience preferred, preferably in Inland and/or Ocean Marine.
Proven success in achieving profit and underwriting production goals.
Strong interpersonal, presentation and negotiation skills.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Strong sales acumen with proven ability to drive results.
Effective automation skills.
Bachelor’s Degree, or equivalent in experience.
