Title: Vice President Field & Strategy – National AccountsLocation: United States-Connecticut-HartfordOther Locations: United States-Illinois-Chicago, United States-New York-New York, United States-Texas-FriscoJob Number: 1701749The Vice President Field & Strategy for National Accounts is a highly visible and influential role, responsible for broker relationships, new client acquisition as well as client management and retention.  The role is directly responsible for leading field Territory Managing Directors, developing and executing on marketing, branding, and distribution strategies and building effective partnership strategies with Claims, Risk Engineering, Service Operations, TPA Services and other critical execution partners. 

 

The Vice President Field & Strategy manages 7 direct reports and an overall staff of 40.   He/she reports to the SVP Specialty Commercial who in turn reports to President of The Hartford.

 

Vice President Field & Strategy is a critical broker and client facing leadership position in a core line of business that is a consistent source of growth and profit for The Hartford.  It is an opportunity to work with seasoned and highly collaborative team and offers a high degree of autonomy and ownership of the business.

 

Responsibilities:

 

Financial Performance (30%)

Responsible for directing the development and execution of the annual Operating Plan for the National Accounts line of business.

Accountable for delivering the targeted financial performance consistent with the plan.

Responsible for regular analysis of the financial performance in the National Accounts books.

Identifies trends in performance and develops recommendations for improvement as needed.

Reviews countrywide results to evaluate execution and recommend/implement corrective actions as needed to address identified issues.

The function includes measuring and reporting on the business, budgeting.

The role also collaborates with the Industry Team, Finance, IT, Actuary, Claims, Legal and Compliance to execute strategy.

 

Leadership (30%)

Responsible for creating and sustaining a high performing team by retaining, developing, performance managing and pipelining talent across the organization.

The leadership role is required to build a culture in keeping with The Hartford Behaviors.

 

Strategic & Tactical Initiatives (20%)

Accountable for leading and/or participating in LOB initiatives that support and execute on the strategic plan.

Will also be responsible for working with the functional partners on various tactical initiatives that support execution on operating plan commitments.

 

Partnership with Commercial Markets (20%)

This role is responsible for ensuring that the National Accounts team collaborate and communicate with Commercial Markets field staff and product lines to achieve common goals, manage agents effectively, share talent and leverage the broader organization.Qualifications:

A minimum of 15 years of insurance experience

Extensive knowledge of Workers Comp, Auto, and GL lines; large loss sensitive and high hazard risks.

Superior understanding of all aspects of underwriting execution, inclusive of policy form development, product filings and interaction with actuaries and reinsurers

Strong understanding of insurance financial concepts.

Strong strategic planning capability

Prior supervisory and leadership experience required

Bachelors degree required.  Advanced degree attractive.

Location & Travel:

Preferred locations include NYC Metro Area, Hartford, CT or Chicago, IL; however position may reside in other major Tier 1 cities. 50-70% travel largely to Tier 1 cities where brokerage is transacted as well as client meetings, councils, and industry trade events
