This position will join a growing team of construction underwriters responsible for handling nationwide underwriting and marketing of specialty construction pollution and professional coverages, including Contractor’s Professional and Protective Indemnity (CPPI), Contractor’s Professional and Protective Indemnity Plus (CPPI ) and Contractor’s Pollution Liability (CPL). Working in a team environment and under the supervision of more senior underwriters, this position will collaborate to service accounts, identify key construction agents/brokers, implement sales and marketing activities and demonstrate a strong customer focus and understanding of construction’s appetite and strategy.

Key Accountabilities will include:

  • Underwrite and evaluate specialized CPPI , CPPI and CPL construction risks with training and supervision from more senior underwriters
  • Develop and maintain industry expertise within highly specialized coverage areas, including unique errors and omissions type coverages specifically built for contractors performing design services and/or subcontracting out design services, and coverage solutions developed for contractors to prevent gaps due to pollution-related exclusions on standard commercial general liability programs
  • Execution of marketing, sales, service and relationship management functions relative to a targeted producer group and related book of business
  • Accountable for pricing and program development to reflect identified exposures, financial condition, insured’s safety program and claim legal environment
  • Provide exceptional customer service, including expedient response to inquiries and submissions
  • Consults with agents/brokers to answer questions regarding coverage, process and appropriate resources within The Hartford based on their unique needs
  • Interface with risk engineering and claim personnel to insured proper level of service is given to insureds
  • Develop manuscript endorsements with underwriting team and claims
  • Quote renewals with underwriting approval through analyzing renewal applications and rating accounts
  • Coordinate with Account Manager team to issue binders and policies
  • Review site photos and environmental information for covered owned site coverage.
  • Through training and development, the position will be accountable for sourcing opportunities, establishing and maintaining a pipeline of accounts and actively participating in the sales/marketing process
  • Other responsibilities as warranted


Qualifications:

Minimum experience, education and skills required:

  • 1 year of work experience; previous experience working in a professional office setting in a position that focuses on teamwork
  • 4 year undergraduate degree and/or insurance designations preferred
  • Ability to relocate to Chicago after 10 months of training in King of Prussia, PA
  • Ability to function in a fast-paced, team environment requiring a high level of customer service and responsiveness
