Workforce Analytics Specialist

The Workforce Analytics Specialist is responsible for consulting with and providing support to HR generalists, HR specialists and business leaders on effective utilization of HR data and analytics to provide business intelligence and inform decision making. The position leads efforts to mine, analyze, report, model and predict workforce and business outcomes through the use of The Hartford’s HR Data Mart. The position collaborates with leadership to determine reporting and analytic needs of people leaders and develops the reports, dashboards and analyses to meet those needs. The position is responsible for compiling and presenting the summary of analyses and findings to guide in the translation of analytics into action. Acting as an internal consultant, the position assists HR Leadership in evaluating policies, processes and practices to ensure a positive return on people initiatives and the development of a workforce that supports the achievement of the company’s strategic objectives. This position will also be responsible for helping to build analytic skills and capabilities among HR and business communities within The Hartford.


  • Act as the functional expert for workforce analytics, integrating data from various sources for analysis requiring the expert use of 1) data mining and extraction, 2) sophisticated query and reporting, 3) statistical transformation, regression analysis, pattern recognition, predictive modeling and 4) data visualization and presentation tools.
  • Prepare and deliver oral and written presentations for HR Leadership on performance success and improvement opportunities. Consults with HR Leaders on what questions to ask and how to tie results to business impact.
  • Keep current on functional, industry and labor market trends and oversee external benchmark efforts to stay abreast of developments in the application and use of workforce analytics and industry standards.
  • Design and manage mid to large-scale research projects.
  • Manage requests for data and analysis from HR and Business Leadership, resulting in the creation of programs, reports and/or metrics to meet user needs and business requirements.
  • Oversee the consistent application of workforce data definitions and attributes, and consults with HR Business Partners (Generalists) and COEs (Specialists) insuring the proper and effective use of people data and metrics.
  • Take the lead in designing and creating reports, identifying trends and outliers, and presenting findings to HR Business Partners, COEs and Leaders.
  • Consult with HR Business Partners and COEs on how to understand and leverage HR metrics; assist in development of analytics capability building across HR
  • Provide reporting and analytics support to HR Business Partners and COEs to enable business workforce planning activities
  • Provide ad-hoc reporting and analytics support for large, complex initiatives and requests
  • Develop and Maintain People Analytic Frameworks to ensure information and insights are relevant to the current business challenges.


  • Superior analytic and problem solving skills
  • Prior experience in the design and application of research methods (i.e. confidence testing, linear and logistic regression, decision tree, chaid, Cox proportional hazard, etc.)
  • Proven ability to interpret data and make recommendations for business solutions
  • Ability to translate data into meaningful metrics and present them in user-friendly dashboards and reports
  • Strong communication, visualization and presentation skills; proven ability to consult to leadership
  • Strong business acumen and demonstrated capability for business analysis
  • Project management experience with managing large, complex, enterprise-wide initiatives
  • Experience in Human Resources, Operations, Finance and/or Marketing analytics roles a must

Required Technical Skills

  • Master data management and metadata management skills
  • Expertise with relational database management tools (MS Access, SQL Server, Oracle)
  • Experience with statistical modeling and analysis packages (SAS JMP, SPSS, etc.)
  • Experience with reporting and business intelligence tools (Tableau, MS Power BI, etc.)

Required Education

  • Master of Science degree in Human Resources or I/O Psychology preferred
  • Course work in Statistics, Information Management, Psychology, Sociology and/or Economics principles beneficial to role
