Overview of the Position

Reporting to the Head of Sales & Distribution, the National Partner Manager (NPM) is accountable for establishing and maintaining corporate-level relationships with strategically important distribution partners in support of driving top-line profitable growth across a partners’ entire HIG book. The NPM will partner with each business Segment to ensure partner plans and strategies are aligned with the business Segment’s goals. By being uniquely positioned to understand the National Partner’s broader strategies, the NPM will be able to uncover opportunities, needs and challenges not visible through a single channel perspective. They will ensure the operations of the relationship drive a productive relationship for The Hartford and its key National Partners; National Partner Managers often serve as a key contact/escalation point for Segment, Field, and Partner leaders.

The NPM is a business development leader supporting mutual growth with these critical partners. Individual will be influential in aligning the field sales organization, the business segments and the broker channel to effectively capitalize on the different opportunities. Individual will manage national initiatives and develop a thorough enterprise-wide understanding of the key assigned brokers and agents to uncover opportunities to grow revenues profitably. This is a high visibility position at The Hartford with significant senior leader interaction both internally and externally.

This position will ideally be based in the Home Office in Hartford, CT.


  • Establish deep, credible executive relationships with assigned distribution partners, including corporate office executives as well as key regional distribution leaders. Leverage this relationship to drive positive business collaboration between partner and HIG; serve as a key contact for broker executive leadership.

  • Deeply partnered with Hartford business Segments to understand each Segment’s goals and how to build plans and strategies to achieve those goals with each managed Partner.

  • Fully understand distribution partners corporate level strategic plans; leverage this knowledge and strong relationship to uncover opportunities to strengthen the business relationship and grow the HIG book of business.

  • Educate HIG sales and distribution organizations across all lines of business on the strategic plans of assigned partners; ensure understanding of how HIG products and services align with partners needs and corporate objectives; where required bring together HIG sales and distribution and partner leadership to ensure alignment of relationship and go-forward execution.

  • Engage in active partnership with HIG sales and distribution and National Partners to fully uncover and execute on initiatives to grow partner TWP, improve service delivery and strengthen the relationship. Ensure the development of broker operating/sales plans that align to and drive segment strategies that are approved and designated by the segments as a part of Commercial and Consumer Markets distribution strategy.

  • Lead the direction, implementation, and execution of enterprise wide initiatives that drive profitable revenues for our top broker and agent partners. Develop critical growth strategies in response to the changing broker/agent environment that strengthens our competitive position.


  • A minimum of ten years of experience working in Sales Operations , Sales Management, Field Underwriting, or Distribution Management within commercial property casualty insurance. Detailed understanding of large broker relationships required; established, portable relationships with large brokers is ideal.

  • Excellent business development skills - proven track record of identifying and driving new and creative growth opportunities and customer solutions. High sales achiever with a demonstrated ability to produce results.

  • Proven ability to develop and maintain relationships at all levels of management internally and externally. Ability to leverage those relationships to achieve results.

  • Polished executive presence.

  • Strong strategic thinking skills and complex problem-solving abilities; ability to leverage market and competitor intelligence as well as Home Office support functions.

  • Bachelor’s degree required. MBA or another advanced degree and/or CPCU, attractive.
