The Digital Product Manager role is an individual contributor position that requires project management experience, estimation experience, and strong collaboration and communication skills. The role must have the ability to manage a governance process that helps set IT priorities, elicit business enhancement needs, document specification for the applications, and create integration mappings between systems. You must also have the ability to support the business in evaluating options, ensure the development team understands the changes needed, support QA with creating test materials and defect resolution.

Job description:

The Digital Product Manager will be working on digital projects that impact The Hartford’s employee intranet site. Project work will focus on SharePoint, front-end, digital marketing, and mobile technologies. Resources will be expected to influence both the business and IT, understand external user experience, back-end technologies, and business operations.

The Digital Product Manager will be the bridge between our business and IT. The candidate will be working with the digital product owner and business stakeholder, providing thought leadership in developing/documenting requirements that help drive our digital agenda.

This opportunity utilizes a combination of professional, business, and technical systems knowledge and skills. This is a nontraditional, fast track role for an analyst who can independently conceptualize and design digital business systems that address market dynamics and the critical nature of digital media on our core business lines.

Desired Skills and Experience

Digital

  1. Significant knowledge of SharePoint, demonstrating knowledge of permissions, workflows, search, and knowledge management
  2. Experience in managing/supporting an employee intranet and a firm grasp of digital disruption and innovative product development.
  3. Must have some mobile or tablet app experience and have a keen understanding of the commonalities and differences between web and mobile products.
  4. Strong working knowledge of digital/web analytics in one or more web analytics tools (e.g. Adobe Insights, Site Catalyst, Google Analytics, etc.)
  5. Strong understanding of website tagging methodology
  6. Experience developing personalized experiences on websites (i.e. Segment creation).
  7. Understanding of current and emerging IT products, services, processes and methodologies.
  8. Understanding of Mobile development, responsive frameworks and associated testing methodologies/tools.
  9. Candidate should be a Change Leader and be comfortable bringing new ideas to the team that align with The Hartford’s strategic growth and vision
  10. Experience with Agile development methodology

Communications

  1. Excellent oral and written communication skills for data collection and documentation.
  2. Proven analytical and writing skills to produce systems development requirements.
  3. Ability to apply the appropriate knowledge and techniques necessary to draw out requirements completely and accurately from stakeholders.
  4. Expert communication is essential, must be able to listen and understand the question and develop and deliver clear insights to various roles from developers to other stakeholders.
  5. Develop communication content, both specific and broad, for system changes being implemented in production.
  6. Ability to effectively interact with all levels of the organization (e.g. entry level end-user through to Senior Management) and demonstrate strong leadership skills.
  7. Acts as liaison between the business and IT.

Analysis

  1. Responsible for fulfilling business support needs in the development, implementation and maintenance of processing and reporting systems.
  2. Formulate solutions/alternatives for information based on business needs and processing problems across multiple systems and functional areas.
  3. Possesses functional knowledge and skills reflective of a competent practitioner with the ability to deliver on work of high technical complexity.

Management.

  1. Manages the priorities for related work (defects and enhancements) and presents recommendations to management.
  2. Ability to effectively interface with others and develop healthy, productive work interactions.
  3. Effectively handle work load by managing priorities and communicating to all necessary points of contact on a regular basis.
  4. Understands sound project management methodology.
  5. Self-motivated and results-oriented with the ability to work in a team environment and independently.
  6. Experience with developing estimates and prioritizing deliverables.
  7. Excellent organizational and time management skills with the ability to adjust to changing priorities in a fast-paced environment.


Qualifications:

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

  • Bachelor degree in Marketing, Computer Science or a related discipline and at least three or more years of diverse work experience, or an equivalent combination of education and work experience as a Marketing/Business Analyst or Project Manager.
  • 3 years digital marketing, web, or software industry experience
  • Knowledge of Web/Software development experience a major plus
  • Web analytics and/or SEO experience preferred
  • Tiered application knowledge a major plus
