Data Scientist, Personal Lines Data Science
Overview of the Position
The individual will develop and maintain various Homeowners Insurance work products such as Loss Models, Territory Models, Credit Models, Underwriting Report Ordering Optimization, and Home Class Plan Models. The individual will also assist in development of vital analytical tools that will enable us to better manage and monitor our home product. The individual will perform actuarial and statistical analysis to enhance our tools and methods. He/she will assist in developing repeatable processes to support research efforts and be responsible for peer reviewing others’ work.
•Build predictive models using GLM, CART, logistic regression, and other means, in support of implementation of new rating plans and other initiatives.
•Validate, manipulate and perform exploratory data analysis tasks on analytical data sets.
•Provide qualitative and quantitative data support to ensure accuracy of characteristics and metrics. Analyze new data sources for availability and quality, and integrate with internal sources to support research or analytics. Build repeatable processes.
•Test and evaluate new software and methodologies.
•Regular communication with Data Science team and internal customers.
•Peer review and evaluate models built by Data Science staff
Experience & Skills
•1-3 years of experience in statistical modeling or analysis required; 2-4 years relevant insurance experience (underwriting, product management, product development, actuarial) preferred
•Basic-to-moderate SAS/R/Python programming skills, 3 years computer programming experience in SAS or R preferred
•Understanding of the Personal Lines business and the pricing of related insurance products
•Experience with homeowners loss modeling preferred
•Strong analytical and data manipulation skills, including strong programming experience
•General knowledge of insurance, and of our data and related systems
•Ability to work independently as well as part of a team; builds effective relationships
•Strong communication skills
•Builds effective relationships with internal and external customers
•Contributes creative ideas
• Degree in statistics, actuarial science, economics, computer science, or other quantitative field required; advanced degree preferred.
