Business Project Manager

The Business Project Manager, Personal Lines, is responsible for business implementation of small to medium size invest projects, typically associated with the business portfolio of IT Investments. The successful individual will work within the Personal Lines PMO department.  This role is designed to develop skills, behaviors and leadership through work assignment and periodic reporting relationship reassignment.  The Business Project Manager is expected to successfully develop their competencies while executing their work assignments.  Project work will vary from initiatives and analyses to product, class plan and coverage design. 

 

Responsibilities

Accountability for project initiation and planning, and for oversight of business activities within a project.  This includes initial project planning such as developing the project scope, defining project guidelines, obtaining business and IT sponsor approvals, and coordinating business resources necessary to successfully complete the project  

Maintain, revise and communicate documented costs and benefits associated with the project; coordinate or participate in development of the Cost Benefit Analysis

Communicate major milestones, identify potential project risks, provide direction to the project team, and conduct regular status meetings to review project activities

Responsible for  procedures for changing scope and project acceptance processes while  assessing  and managing project variances (e.g. budget variance); evaluate impacts to overall project commitments, presenting options, and implementing approved changes

Continually obtain feedback to assure that project efforts meet customer expectations for agreed upon schedule, cost and objectives

Responsible for creating plans and preparing for business implementation and driving change management responsibilities, both internally and externally. including internal and external partners and customers

Contribute to project management best practices and disciplines of the organization; foster and promote knowledge exchange

Understand the business environment of Personal Lines, grasp the goals and objectives of the various projects, understand the business resource requirement for the projects, and be able to communicate in appropriate business or technical terms, depending upon the audience

 Qualifications: Qualifications

Minimum 3 years of business experience, ideally in financial services or insurance industry

College degree preferred

Exposure to project process at various stages from conception to successful implementation

Requires solid organizational skills, ability to multitask and manage multiple priorities in a cross-functional environment

Time management skills - Manages time and workload efficiently with the ability to balance multiple priorities and fulfill all commitments within established timeframes

Critical thinking - The ability to actively and skillfully conceptualize, apply, analyze and evaluate to improve results and processes

High level of proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite

Highly developed problem solving skills; excellent leadership and communication skills

Exposure to IT environment or project a plus   

Desire to earn PMP accreditation preferred
