We are seeking a talented individual to join our GB Compliance team. The team is part of The Hartford's Law Department and is made up of cross-functional compliance professionals supporting the core compliance functions in Group Benefits. This individual will be primarily responsible for implementation of newly enacted legislation and the management of corrective action plan implementation. An ideal candidate is someone with broad legal, compliance, and business expertise.

Job Duties

  • Directs compliance with federal, state, and or other regulatory requirements in an effort to build sound business practices, policies and procedures
  • Participates in the design and implementation of internal compliance testing and audits
  • Evaluates the applicability and implications of regulations to The Hartford’s products and or processes; identify options; and develop recommendations
  • Partners with the Law Department on regulatory research and establishes regulatory compliance standards, in an effort to promote awareness and relevance to business leaders, compliance colleagues and staff throughout the various lines of business
  • Regularly monitors and analyzes compliance related metrics and performs all duties associated with reporting
  • Independently works with business partners to develop, document and maintain solutions, communications and policies and procedures necessary to implement laws, mitigate risk and ensure consistent, sound, compliant business practices. This includes
    • Project managing implementation and remediation efforts
    • Partnering across the enterprise to establish and update best practices; and utilizing key talent to build synergy
    • Establishing appropriate internal controls
    • Developing training and communication materials
    • Validating and monitoring implementation to promote an environment of continuous improvement and learning



  • 4 year degree or equivalent experience required
  • A minimum of 7 years’ experience in the areas of Legal, Compliance, Project Management, or Governance/Risk Mitigation.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint; SharePoint is a plus)
  • Experience using technology platforms for tracking and reporting on compliance activity
  • Proven experience:

    • Planning and managing complex, multi-functional projects
    • Working in a heavily matrixed organization
    • Formulating and influencing decisions in tight timeframes and often without sufficient amounts of data
