Title: Sr Tech Construction Acct Specialist/Construction Account SpecialistLocation: United States-California-BreaOther Locations: United States-California-Los AngelesJob Number: 1702618The SCAS must be able to meet the service needs of these high hazard complex accounts and provide service coordination and management. The development of strategic focused service plans that improve the client’s bottom line and providing superior consultative services to construction clients. Works at the SME level to include the development of new construction specific products and/or services. Job requires travel for client site surveys and/or agency meeting/presentations. Travel could involve car and air travel (estimate 30-50%).

 

Risk Assessment:  Must have expert knowledge and skill to handle all construction RE work assignments for all lines of business.  This would include working with large multi-location accounts.  Must be able to thoroughly evaluate insured high hazard exposures (losses/loss analysis) and controls and provide underwriters and agents with direction to improve account conditions and lessen financial exposure.  Must work to understand the insured’s business, be able to communicate with a financial benefit of return on initiatives and actions proposed, uncover new service opportunities, or additional exposures to loss

Risk Improvement Services:  Must work at a superior skill level when providing

Risk Improvement services to construction clients.  Working with the client in a long term strategic approach to improving the accounts performance. This would include the demonstration of operational loss analysis reports, accident investigations and identification of unusual or uncontrolled exposures used to direct services that would eliminate or control conditions that could lead to potential losses. Must have the ability to complete quantifiable service plans; provide professionally demanding consultative recommendations in business letters; provide highly effective & dynamic safety training to address losses or potentials (i.e.) OSHA 10/30, Construction Leadership Skills; and have the ability to use the construction related tools and products to provide the services necessary.  Must be able to communicate the status of service plans in the context of what The Hartford has to offer that would positively impact the insured’s insurance program coverage.  Must be able to direct and manage the services of multi-location accounts through the development and monitoring of Risk Engineering Service Instructions (RESI’s). 

 

Account Management: Provide account management and service coordination to large complex construction accounts (including CIP projects as may be directed) and Construction CIP accounts; directs and provides oversight of delivery on service commitments; assures the timeliness, consistency, and appropriateness of service; prepare reports for lead construction underwriters; participate and contribute to UW sign off meetings when requested provide professional opinion of risk on these large accounts/projects. Providing qualitative review of work product (Risk Engineering reports and letters) of service consultants to assigned construction accounts. Attend and participate in prospective CIP survey meetings in participation with underwriting for the purpose of evaluating prospective wrap-up projects, and making professional risk engineering presentation as required during the finalist stage account / broker presentations.

Technical Support: Strengthen the level of expertise within the REO in the construction discipline while providing technical assistance and support to internal and external partners by:

 

• Providing technical assistance, training, and mentoring to REC’s and REM’s.

• Assessing, developing, creating or revising new and current content or resource materials such as white papers, survey forms and survey guides as may be directed.

• Provide assistance and support to both internal & external partners such as Underwriting, Claims, Agents, Insureds (both new and renewal) and industry trade organizations. 

• Working on Special Projects assigned by the Construction Technical Manager.

• Acting as a back-up to the Construction Account Managers or TM as needed

Consultative Skills:  Must apply analytical and communication skills and the knowledge of construction operations to uncover the business needs of the insured and be able to converse with the insured using a financial impact business consultative approach.  Based on knowledge of the insured’s construction operations and needs, must be able to sell recommendations that correct and prevent the potential for future financial loss. Skills should include the ability to relate and effectively communicate with construction field workers and that of executive management, be professionally demanding with the ability to get positive results. The consultant will have the ability to effectively manage and maintain a highly positive relationship with the client being a trusted advisor to the clients’ leadership team.Qualifications:

A BA/BS degree with coursework focused on Occupational Safety and Health Studies, Fire Sciences, Pure Sciences, Engineering or related subjects is preferred. 

Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH), Associate in Risk Management (ARM), or Construction Risk and Insurance Specialist (CRIS) – at least 1 required or being actively pursued.

Be at a level TRP 3 (i.e. SME in construction), and a TRP 3 level in Transportation or Industrial Hygiene

12 years construction related risk engineering and insurance experience (with 3 years minimum in the insurance industry) includes onsite consultations and inspections)

Excellent communication skills (oral, written, visual)

Skilled and experienced in conducting and facilitating live classroom training

Proficient in using Microsoft Office Tools including Excel, PowerPoint, Word

Experience presenting at Business Industry Groups and Associations

Ability to drive change and develop innovative solutions

Ability to work independently, think outside the current model and own decisions

Ability to travel up to 50% of the time by car and air for client site surveys and/or agency meeting/presentations.
